TIP #5 FROM PARENTING SIMPLIFIED: HOW TO BUILD BETTER RELATIONSHIPS AT THE DINNER TABLE

TIP #5 FROM PARENTING SIMPLIFIED: HOW TO BUILD BETTER RELATIONSHIPS AT THE DINNER TABLE

You're talking all day long to your kids, but are you really talking? And are you really listening? The prompts in our journals were designed to help strengthen connections within families. A great place to talk with your kids and truly hear them is at the dinner table.

Lily Morgan of Parenting Simplified is back this week sharing easy tips for ways to connect around the dinner table through conversation. Take it away, Lily!

ENCOURAGE DINNER CONVERSATION WITH QUESTIONS

Eating together as a family builds relationships and helps kids feel secure. So strive to eat dinner as a family whenever you can! At dinner time, come prepared with fun questions for your children. Not sure what to ask? Use your Promptly Journal as a guide for questions, like what's your favorite color or what's your favorite TV show? Here are some other ideas:

  • What do you like most about school so far?
  • What made you happy today?
  • If you had a super power what would it be?

For older kids, ask questions like:

  • Would you rather eat a small can of cat food or eat two rotten tomatoes?
  • Would you rather never use social media sites/apps again or never watch another movie or TV show?

KEEP THE CONVO FUN AND ENJOYABLE

Remember to make dinner enjoyable. Give everyone a chance to talk about their day instead of correcting table manners, scolding, and begging your child to eat.
